The State Language Law, in plain terms
Since 1 January 2026, employees in Lithuania whose job involves serving customers directly are expected to be able to communicate with those customers in Lithuanian. It is not about fluency. It is about handling everyday, practical exchanges. The requirement begins at A1 and then moves to A2.
If you are not sure whether it applies to you, our free checker answers it in three questions, and the free guide explains the law in plain English.
Levels, from no Lithuanian at all
Each level is 16 live classes, twice a week, so about eight weeks. Beginners start in English, so you do not need any Lithuanian to join A1.
Beginner
Greetings, introductions, numbers, shopping and the everyday phrases you need first. This is the level the State Language Law starts at.
Elementary
Handle routine work and daily situations, describe your job, and answer practical questions from customers and colleagues.
Intermediate
Hold real conversations, deal with most situations that come up living in Lithuania, and explain opinions and plans.
Upper intermediate
Work comfortably in Lithuanian, follow longer discussions, and express yourself clearly on concrete and abstract topics.
Advanced
Use Lithuanian fluently and flexibly for professional and social life, with good control of nuance and register.

Why learners choose Spraviva
Built for people who live here
Most of our Lithuanian students are foreigners already working in Lithuania. The vocabulary is the vocabulary you actually need: your workplace, the shop, the clinic, the landlord.
Times that fit a working day
Classes run morning and evening, twice a week, so a course fits around shifts and office hours rather than competing with them.
Native and near native teachers
Taught live from Vilnius by teachers who speak the language as it is actually used, not textbook Lithuanian.
Free tools between classes
Flashcards with native audio, quizzes, a word of the day and a daily streak, all free and open to anyone.
